Well, friends, here we are! The final portion of our journey through Revelation’s highlights! This Sunday’s passage is Revelation 22:6-21.
John is giving the readers and listeners of this letter last minute encouraging words. He’s giving those who have inflicted harm upon the Church another opportunity for repentance. He’s reminding Christians to remain faithful. And three times, John is saying that Christ is coming soon!
John is summing up the previous 21 chapters in these sixteen verses. He’s trying to scare the mess out of those who are tempted to waver and worship the Emperor or those who are already in bed with the Empire. In other words, John is not playing around! In his mind, there is no time to play around as he is convinced Christ will come back shortly.
Well, many years have passed since this writing, but that doesn’t mean we can’t or shouldn’t act with some similar urgency in our lives. As John is calling out the forces of evil for what they are and encouraging the 1st century Christians to remain grounded in the LORD, we are encouraged to do the same. We see evil in many manifestations today and we are to call it out. We are not to worship any mere force, but only the LORD God of heaven and earth who holds human destiny.
Beloved in Christ, be encouraged.
Christ’s Peace,
Pastor T. Wes
