Our Compassionate Savior

Our scriptures for this Sunday come from Psalm 103:1-8 and Luke 13:10-17.

Compassion is a central theme in both passages.  In Psalm 103:8, the LORD is compassionate and full of mercy.  In Luke 13:12-13, Jesus looks with compassion onto the woman who has been bent over for over 18 years and heals her.

Our God is indeed compassionate.  Both scriptures remind us that the LORD is active in our lives and throughout all of creation!  In Psalm 103 and Luke 13, they also give us a glimpse of the past work of our compassionate LORD.

Yet, there is something else there.  In Psalm 103:4, the LORD crowns us with compassion.  In Luke 13:13 and 13:17, the woman and crowd respond with compassion in that they rejoice and praise God for the wonderful things they witnessed.

We have been crowned with compassion.  As we bear witness to the marvelous and wonderful work of our God, we declare and share God’s compassion and love to a hurting world in desperate need of it.

Friends, this is indeed Good News!

Christ’s Peace!
